Following an innovation competition process performed by Porterbrook, a select number of suppliers offering innovative rail products demonstrated their new developments and products at the Porterbrook Innovation Hub at Rail Live on 19–20 June 2019 at the Quinton Rail Technology Centre, Warwickshire.

The new Infodev development installed on the Class 319 train has been fully tested during the first day of Rail Live and the considerable changes in both occupant density and the number of seated passengers occurring during the day has been audited and has been found to be reported by the system in real time with astonishing accuracy.

Infodev EDI is developing Seat & Space occupancy detection is based on their newly developed multiple parameter sensors.  It is at the forefront of innovative technology.

Infodev EDI has applied years of expertise in detection technology and variations upon its detection algorithms to develop the Infodev innovative Seat and Space occupancy capability.

The team has been very pleased to hear positive feedback from visitors.  Following this initial testing, Infodev are now working on the next generation of the product, which will enable an interface to ticket sales and hence seat reservation status and to provide an output for real time integration with PIS displays and Passenger and Operator Apps.

The continued success of Infodev EDI products and services can be seen in the UK and worldwide market where the passenger counting solution sees particular success due to its exceptional accuracy.  Surpassing other technologies and due to its ease of installation, its exceptionally thin sensor array ensures that installation can be achieved in the most difficult scenarios. In the UK alone Infodev EDI equipment is fitted to train classes 142, 144, 150, 153, 155, 156, 158, 165, 168, 170, 185, 220, 221, 222, 230, 315, 321, 322, 323, 333, 442 and HST.

Following an innovation competition process performed by Porterbrook, a select number of suppliers offering innovative rail products will be demonstrating their new developments and products at the Porterbrook Innovation Hub at Rail Live 19–20 June 2019 at the Quinton Rail Technology Centre, Warwickshire. Infodev are also exhibiting at Rolling Stock Networking in Derby on 11th July 2019.

Infodev EDI is developing Seat & Space occupancy detection technology based on A.I. image training recognition and an embedded algorithm. It is at the forefront of innovative technology.

Infodev EDI has applied years of expertise in detection technology, detection algorithms and machine learning to develop the Infodev innovative Seat and Space occupancy capability. Deep learning methods have been combined with an Infodev proven detection algorithm and our “big data” expertise to develop the next generation of spread and occupancy technology.

Infodev technology captures multiple images of each train compartment the images/pictures/videos are then processed and analysed with Infodev A.I. based detection algorithm to identify the number of persons standing, the number of free seats and also to detect objects (ex: luggage) in each compartment.

The equipment is very valuable for any train operator that needs to meet franchise commitments for passenger counting or vehicle occupancy or wants to identify and deliver the benefits in operational efficiency that accurate passenger analysis can facilitate. The comprehensive Infodev solution is backed up by powerful analytical software packages that provide high quality data upon which service and investment decisions can be made in confidence.

Harry Vrucht – Technical director of Infodev EDI Inc said “we are delighted to be one of a select number of companies to be exhibiting industry leading innovative products on the Porterbrook Innovation train. The existing product is an award winning solution which remains ideal for train operators and the new AI deep learning product adds to the suite of solutions available from Infodev EDI”.

Kevin Lane - Managing Director of On Train said “We represent Infodev in the UK and were delighted to assist Infodev EDI in the UK market where Infodev equipment has been consistently selected by many train operators with regular repeat orders. Presently we have significant interest in the UK from operators and new builders that either do not have automatic passenger counting or seek a reliable long term solution with much higher accuracy on raw count data than competitive systems can provide.”
